Trademark/IP Paralegal (PL-IP)


·This position will organize and manage the Company’s trademark and patent portfolios, and requires experienced patent paralegal, trademark paralegal, and IP docketing skills to assist the in-house attorneys/agent team.


The patent paralegal responsibilities include:

-- prepare and file all documents for patent applications at the USPTO utilizing the electronic filing system (EFS);

-- prepare and file all documents associated with prosecution and grant of U.S. patent applications, including assignments, declarations, responses, appeals, information disclosure statements, and issue fee payments;

-- prepare and file documents associated with PCT international patent applications;

-- instruct foreign counsel to prepare and file corresponding foreign patent applications; obtain and provide priority documents

The trademark paralegal responsibilities include:

-- prepare and file documents associated with obtaining and prosecuting U.S. and outside U.S. trademark applications, including Statements of Use, Oppositions, Renewals, Affidavits, assignments, and related documents; formulate descriptions of goods and services with the client and identify the intended countries/jurisdictions where the mark will be registered

-- review trademark correspondence from foreign associates, determine course of action, consult with internal client, and prepare instruction letters and other responses where appropriate

-- conduct and analyze trademark searches, prepare necessary clearance reports

-- review trademark watch notices

-- provide guidance to internal clients regarding adoption and proper use of trademarks

The IP docketing responsibilities include:

-- maintain and update global patent and trademark prosecution to understand and track deadlines associated with patent and trademark prosecutions;

-- intake and entry of all invention disclosures;

-- enter trademark and patent filings into the database;              

-- docket all incoming and outgoing matters and correspondences with the USPTO, WIPO, foreign counsel, and clients database;

-- manage maintenance fee and annuity payments utilizing CPI database;

-- generate reports from the database


-- 5 years relevant paralegal experience and/or paralegal certificate

-- advanced knowledge and understanding of rules and procedures of the USPTO, PCT and other international governing bodies
